Call for Tracks: It may be fall, so it's time to start thinking about the upcoming installment of the Zaftig Research Holiday Compilation. If you want to be a part of it, start by reading our Manifesto on Noise. We try to keep this a family affair because if kids can't listen to noisy holiday music, they may turn to Mariah Carey's terrible holiday music and no one wants that. We like celebrations of holidays, the season, etc. We keep it pretty open, but we want it to be a good time and focus on the theme (winter, winter holidays). This is not the time to vent your anger at particular holidays, etc. If you're on board, send a 3-5 minute noise / dark ambient/ weird holiday track in wav format to info@zaftigresearch.com. It's easiest to send a link via WeTransfer, or some similar site. In return, you'll get two copies of the compilation packaged in lovely holiday cards - one for you and one for someone special. The deadline is November 20, 2024.News: Stolen Light and Goose both dropped releases on the inimitable Inner Demons Records. The Stolen Light disc is titled "Unprepared Guitar," and the sound source is just as it says: a guitar with a lot of junk on it. No overdubs or processing other than a mixer. Equipment includes a First Act guitar with one broken string, paper clips, metal chain, scrap metal, back massager, and other junk. The Goose disc is called "Hella Free." All tracks were created using a violin bow on cracked cymbals and running this through an effects processor. The name "Hella Free" comes from Micah at Starving Musician writing "Hella Free" on broken cymbals and leaving them for anyone who wanted to pick them up. These tracks were created using two of these cymbals that I was lucky enough to grab. If you don't know Inner Demons Records, you are missing out. The label is great and Dan is a fantastic guy.
